Throughout the festive season and colder months, getting out the gym and looking after your diet is the last thing on most people’s minds. However, if you’re dreaming of a six pack abs on the beach next summer you may want to put a few small steps into place this winter to get you a head start.
Start slowly now and build up
Sometimes that hardest part is getting started. If you’re not used to exercising, smashing the gym every day will leave you exhausted and deflated. Instead you can start slowly with 10-15 minute workouts now so that once the new year rolls around, you’re body is prepped and ready for something more intense.
Get some rest
Luckily most of us get a bit of time off over the festive period. This is the perfect opportunity to catch up on some rest and improve your nighttime routine. From cravings to moods, our sleep pays a huge part in how our body behaves and performs.
Workout at home
If you’re struggling to fit in gym workouts, training at home might be the answer for you. With just a little equipment and a bit of space, you can get a gym quality workout without leaving the house. There are plenty of free online resources to get you started if you prefer to be told what to do when it comes to exercise.
Switch up your diet
If you’ve been eating the same kind of foods week in, week out for years it may be time to try something a little different and see how your body reacts. You don’t have to go vegan or vegetarian but cutting back on meat a little may help you reduce your calories and improve your relationship with fruit and veg too!
Use the extra food for fuel
One benefit of the extra food throughout the colder months in the ability to fuel your workouts. Whether you’re trying to gain muscle or not, your body will be full of energy and ready to hit the gym hard. So enjoy a mince pie or two, keep busy and get yourself ready for the new year.
