Long gone are the days of spoons of sugar and drizzles of lemon. Restaurants across the UK have stuck their nose up to traditional toppings to create some serious stacks for the 13th. And we’re nothing but chuffed. To make sure you’re not stuck at home with your face in a tub of Nutella and a smoking frying pan... DesignMyNight have got the best pancakes to tuck into across the country.
1. The Breakfast Club - Brighton
If your favourite food in the entire world is pizza, clear your diary on the 13th. The Breakfast Club has only gone and created pizza pancakes for Shrove Tuesday - and they’re everything we’ve ever dreamed of. Smacked together with gooey mozzarella, topped with Nduja sausage, chilli oil and basil... make sure you tackle these bad boys on an empty stomach. If you’re unsure of such a collaboration, they have a sweet stack that’s every colour of the rainbow, alongside 100% vegan options
2. Joe’s Southern Table & Bar - London
Fried chicken makes everything better - including pancakes. Well, Joe’s Southern Table & Bar in London reckon so. They’ve mustered up a plate of pancakes that comes with a side of their signature deep-fried chicken. Served with a hefty shot of Jim Beam bourbon maple syrup, it beats chicken and waffles any day of the week.
3. Dirty Bones - London
Okay, you might not be able to eat Dirty Bones’ dutch pancakes on actual Pancake Day but you can every other weekend of the year, which is what really matters. Served as part of their gluttonous brunch menu... this anything-but-average pancake marries silky maple syrup, fresh blueberries and a whole load of cream.
4. Buttermilk & Maple - Bristol
If you need to watch the purse strings this month but want to celebrate Pancake Day, we’ve got you. Buttermilk & Maple serve a mouth-watering tower of buttermilk pancakes and you can get them for just £1 from 11am to 4pm on Shrove Tuesday. Want a variety of toppings? Sort yourself out with bacon or berries, coming in at £1 each.
5. The Book Club - London
Forget about your ritual morning coffee on the 13th. The Book Club has only gone and created espresso martini pancakes and they’re guaranteed to give you a boozy boost of energy. Sandwiched together with Kahlua cream and smothered in a homemade chocolate, espresso and vodka sauce. You’ll never look at your mum’s pancakes the same way again.
6. The Diner - Southampton
The Diner are never ones to shy away from celebrating Shrove Tuesday. This year they’ve gone the whole nine yards (well, nearly) to offer no less than eight different stacks. We won’t list them all. But we will tell you about our two favourites: their Reece’s Pieces pancakes and Oreo-inspired pancakes with Marshmallow fluff.
7. Mac & Wild - London
Mac & Wild have gone down the sweet and savoury route for this year’s Shrove Tuesday celebrations. What they’re bringing to the table is guaranteed to outshine any pancake you’ve ever had. Their fluffy stacks will be topped with scoops of salted caramel ice cream, chunks of deep-fried Mars bar and crispy bacon bits, in a pool of whisky toffee sauce.
8. Polo Bar - London
It might be a bit nippy out, but Polo Bar has teamed up with Jude’s ice cream to bring a nod-worthy selection of stacks to their 24-hour diner. Pick from apple crumble and custard that’s served with Jude’s custard ice cream and a fresh slice of apple pie. Or, the red velvet and cherry ripple that’s similarly presented with a slice of red velvet cake and a generous serving of Jude’s cherry ripple ice cream.
