Luck of the Irish
I’m sure you already know the #1 rule of St. Patrick’s Day: wear green or else you risk being pinched! Being half Irish, and having studied abroad in Ireland, this is an extremely important holiday -and tradition- to me. But not all of us want to wear those #basic “Kiss me, I’m Irish: shirts, so what are we to do?! I’m here to help you pass the pinch test, without looking tacky!
1. A soft hoodie
St. Paddy’s Day happens to fall on a Saturday this year (YESSSS!), so before you get dressed up for the evening, stay cute and cozy in a soft sweatshirt like this one from American Eagle. It’s such a beautiful, soft shade of green that does NOT scream, “I’M TRYING TO LOOK FESTIVE!!!!!”
2. A cute striped Oxford shirt
It’s chic, elegant, and doesn’t have a single shamrock on it. A great thing to wear for any St. Paddy’s Day brunch you may have planned. Bonus points if it has statement sleeves like this little number from Boohoo!
3. A matching crop top & pants set
Whether you’re somewhere warm on Spring Break, you’re lucky enough to live in a warm place, or you’re looking for something to wear to a warm club at night, you can NOT go wrong with a matching green crop top & pants set. I’m obsessedddddddd with this one from Urban Outfitters, especially because you can TOTALLY wear it again.
4. A statement coat
Going to a St. Paddy’s Day parade, or an outdoor darty somewhere chilly? A green coat is the way to go! This furry one from Missguided is a soft, subtle shade of green, and will basically make you a (chic) walking teddy bear. You won’t be pinched, but you MIGHT be snuggled.
5. A bathing suit!
Another one for those of you in warmer places (I’m writing this from NYC as the snow falls outside the window). Even if it’s something like this suit from Aerie with just a green top, adding a splash of green to your swimsuit ensures that you’re safe from pinching (even if you wear it under other clothes!).
6. Nailing it
Take a page out of the Kylie Jenner bible of nails and make your pop of green something non-clothing! I currently have some jade nail polish on-- but if you’d rather do something more subtle like Kylie’s olive green, there’s no rule against it!
7. Statement shoes
Regardless of what kind of shoe it is, a statement shoe is the best way to complete an outfit (without overdoing it on the green thing!). I loooove these Puma sneaks- but you could do green heels, ankle boots, or any other type of shoe depending on your style (and your plans!).
8. A graphic tee
If you’ve read other fashion posts of mine, you know I LOVE good graphic tee, regardless of whether the graphic is bold or subtle. I’m alllll over this tee from Common Culture which you can find at Urban Outfitters. It can be dressed up OR down, depending on where you’re partying that day/night!
9. A cozy flannel
Flannels are the best because you can wear them with sweatpants for your afternoon nap, or tie them around your waist for a night out (and that way you have a jacket for when you’re outside!). Grabbing a green plaid flannel is a no-fail way to go green this St. Paddy’s Day. And NO better place for something cozy than Cotton On!
10. A statement accessory
Your pop of green doesn’t HAVE to be huge! It can be something cute and small like a beautiful piece of jewelry. These Azalea earrings can be worn at any time throughout the year, but a pop of green for St. Paddy’s Day is the best excuse to buy them now! PLUS, you can enter to win a $500 shopping spree at Azalea right now….so…………duh?
