Tiffany Haddish is a COMEDY GENIUS
This past weekend (although shown on Monday evening) was the 2018 MTV Movie and TV awards. Seeing as it was hosted by Tiffany Haddish and run by MTV, there was almost always a guarantee some pure gold moments would happen (I certainly wasn't disappointed). Anyways, below are 7 of the best moments from the show... ENJOY!
1. The return of the Alexander McQueen dress
We stan a thrifty queen. Back for the premiere of Girls Trip, Haddish enlisted the help of a stylist and said for them to do "whatever it takes" for her to look the part. That being said... the stylist came back with a $4000 Alexander McQueen dress that Haddish decided she'd get the most out of by wearing it EVERYWHERE (and she didn't disappoint). The awards show marked the 4th and final time the dress would be making an appearance (with the Oscars and her SNL stint being 2 and 3 after the premiere).
2. Mille Bobby Brown's acceptance speech
Recently MBB decided to leave Twitter due to harassment and bullying she'd been facing. Although not able to accept in person due to an injury, MBB pre-taped a speech that denounced bullying. “If you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t say it,” she said. “There should be no space in this world for bullying, and I’m not going to tolerate it.”
3. Michael B. Jordan asks fans to stop saying "Wakanda Forever" to Chadwick Boseman
After a quick jab at Roseanne, Michael B. Jordan accepted the award for best villain. His speech is full of golden soundbites you'll have to listen to for yourself but his best probably came with a reference to costar Chadwick Boseman. If you've been living under a rock and missed out on the Black Panther "Wakanda Sometimes" meme then you've probably missed out on how done Boseman looks about the whole thing. “Chadwick Boseman personally asked me to ask y’all to stop asking him to say ‘Wakanda Forever’ out on the streets,” Jordan joked. “Y’all taking the ‘forever’ thing a little too seriously.”
4. Love, Simon wins best kiss
The first male same-sex kiss to win at the MTV Movie and TV awards was Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal's from Brokeback Mountain. The second was Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome for Moonlight. This year Nick Robinson and Keiynan Lonsdale took home the award for Love, Simon. Lonsdale then took to the stage to accept the award, saying “If you can live your dreams and wear dresses, you can live your dreams and kiss the one that you love, no matter what gender they are."
5. New tattoos
While presenting the award for best comedic performance, Kristen Bell and Seth Rogen debuted their new "tattoos". Bell sported an avocado on her face while Rogen showed off a lower back tatt of Vin Diesel to prove they could fit in. While squeezing Vin Diesel's "face", Bell did her best impression of him saying “It’s all about family.”
6. Tiffany Haddish's video interludes
The evening was broken up by a multitude of clips featuring Haddish in the year's top films like Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and A Quiet Place. My personal favorite saw Haddish challenging T'Challa in a spoof on the Black Panther (with her eventually appearing as the Black Unicorn).
7. Black Panther wins best movie
Black Panther became the first film with a primarily-black cast to win best movie at the awards. “It’s incredible when the stereotype is that people of color couldn’t bring y’all out to the theater and be able to make these types of films,” Michael B. Jordan said while accepting the award. “The fact that we’re able to do this on this scale with this movie, this project, means the world to us.”
