It's summer blockbuster season y'all
And it's hot af outside. A great way to keep cool AND keep on top of pop culture references is by going to the movies. With things like MoviePass, matinee prices, and $5 Ticket Tuesdays it's easier than ever to afford a trip to the movies. So go on, treat yourself to some popcorn and catch one of these 13 Summer blockbusters:
1. Ocean's 8 (June 8)
While John Mulaney had a joke about how a female centered Ocean's would be terrible... he certainly couldn't have foreseen THIS cast. Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, AND RIHANNA?! I couldn't dream up something better.
2. Hereditary (June 8)
Toni Collete can do no wrong. She's extremely underrated and is a delight in everything she's ever been in. Hereditary is a supernatural horror film that will have you questioning everything you've ever known.
3. Incredibles 2 (June 15)
We've waited 14 years for a sequel, so you better believe you're going to see me living it up with a kids pack as I take it all in. All your favorites return and this highly anticipated sequel is expected to live up to the hype.
4. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 22)
No one is more obsessed with the Jurassic Park series than me. That's a fact and I will hear no more on the subject. Reminiscent of The Lost World, Fallen Kingdom is sure to thrill and have you on your edge of your seat and wanting more. Plus Chris Pratt is still fine as hell.
5. Sorry to Bother You (July 6)
There really isn't a good way to describe Sorry to Bother You. Honestly, even after multiple viewings of the trailer I am still speechless. If you love Tessa Thompson, Lakeith Stanfield, and Armie Hammer then this is something you do not want to miss.
6. Ant-man and the Wasp (July 6)
Still processing Avengers: Infinity War? I certainly am. If you still feel like you need more Marvel in your life, the wait is almost over. While Ant-man may not be the most popular character in the MCU, Paul Rudd brings more than enough charm to Scott Lang. Plus Evangeline Lilly is a badass.
7. Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (July 13)
Who could've predicted that they'd make not one, not two, but THREE Hotel Transylvanias? Me, I could've. You may be asking yourself why I would've and that's because I saw the first in theaters and could see the draw it has not just for kids but kids at heart. Aw. Anyways, Dracula is looking for love and needs a break from running the hotel so he does the most logical thing... goes on a cruise with all his friends and family. Obviously shenanigans ensue.
8. Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! (July 20)
The long-awaited sequel (well it HAS been 10 years since the last one), Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again follows a pregnant Sophie as she reminisces about her mother's younger years on the island. Abba once again serves as the musical inspiration and you're certain to hear favorites from the first film as well as other Abba hits. If this movie is even HALF as fun as the first one, you're in for a good time.
9. Mission: Impossible - Fallout (July 27)
Ethan Hunt (aka Tom Cruise) cannot be stopped. I mean this IS the sixth film in the Mission: Impossible series. It's wild that 22 years after the first movie, we're still begging for more. Henry Cavill is in this one and looking as fine as ever and in case you didn't know, it's Mission: Impossible - Fallout that caused the terrible CGI mustache removal in Justice League.
10. Hot Summer Nights (July 27)
TIMOTHEE CHALAMET IS IN THIS ONE! And that's ALL the convincing you should need to want to see it. Oh... need more? Well, it's a coming of age story set in Cape Code and premiered at SXSW in 2017. It also currently has an 80% FRESH rating on Rotten Tomatoes so the choice is yours.
11. The Spy Who Dumped Me (August 3)
When a movie has Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Justin Theroux, and Sam Heughan in it, you better believe I'm gonna be there on opening day. They're all smoking hot and hilarious. Upon hearing the premise (two women unwittingly get entangled in international conspiracy when one realizes her ex was a spy), I was already sold and the trailer has me counting down the days until the movie comes out.
12. The Meg (August 10)
Jaws but like... bigger... and with Jason Statham. Featuring the talents of Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, and Winston Chao, The Meg finds a research team stranded underwater after their submersible is attacked by the megalodon. Jason Statham stars as the diver that's encountered "the Meg" before.
13. Crazy Rich Asians (August 15)
Based on the novel of the same name, Crazy Rich Asians follows Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) as she accompanies her boyfriend (Henry Golding) to Singapore for his best friend's wedding. I'm not gonna lie, I have played this trailer on repeat since it was released and every single viewing has had me PUMPED for its release. The cast is STACKED with talent and has promises of everything you've ever wanted in a movie.
