New year, new wardrobe
...or not necessarily. There are lots of things from 2018 that are standing the test of time and coming along with us in 2019. But, don't be fooled- the fashion world will be throwing us a few curveballs, too! Check out our list of the top trends we'll see in 2019, and complete your wardrobe as necessary.
Oversized puffer coats
Good news if you live in a cold area: the warmer, the better this winter! Oversized puffer jackets are all the rage, and we’re so grateful. This cozy one from H&M comes in different colors and can be layered in so many different ways! We love this for you.
Coral
Pantene announced that the color of the year for 2019 will be “Living Coral,” so get ready to see it eeeeverywhere. Even though it’s not spring, we’ve seen coral creeping into winter wardrobes, like in this soft oversized sweater from Express. Which leads me to my next point…..
Oversized sweaters
It’s officially the OPPOSITE of beach body szn, so brb I’ll be eating pizza every day until May when I suddenly freak out about not going to the gym in 5 months. Cozy, oversized sweaters are here, so you can basically wear a large and fashionable blanket until further notice. The more oversized, the better. Toss it on over leggings like American Eagle did with this cute cable knit turtleneck, pair it with thigh-high boots à la Ariana Grande, or keep it dressed up with jeans and booties. The possibilities are endless.
Animal print
Animal print, specifically cheetah and leopard, is super hot right now, and is not about to go away. You can incorporate it into your outfit through sweaters, like this fuzzy cardigan from Charlotte Russe, or add some spotted sneakers or booties for a little pop of pizzazz.
Statement sleeves
It’s all about the sleeves this year. Let them be puffy, let them be flowy, and let them be frilly. This lacy top from Tilly’s is a great example of how to make this look work while it’s still cold out, before the floral wrap shirts come out in the spring. Different variations of intricate sleeves will be taking charge all year long, so keep your eyes peeled!
Faux fur
Faux fur is big this year for coats, light jackets, and even vests. We’re super into this black faux fur vest courtesy of ASOS, and we’re gonna try to wear it all the way until spring (and then as soon as possible next fall!). Go as bougee as you want to with this trend- if you want a leopard print fur coat, GO ALL OUT!
Sherpa
It’s all about the (faux) animals this winter, and the sheep are not being forgotten! Sherpa is showing up everywhere from bathrobes, to loungewear, to winter coats, to jackets. American Eagle, for example, has an amazing sherpa trucker jacket that will be wearable now until April (and then again in September). It’s not a traditional sherpa coat, but it’ll still keep you warm (and stylish).
Fringe
We’re tooootally taking hippy vibes into 2019, and I for one am HERE FOR IT. Fringe can be hard to wear during the winter, but we found the cutest fringe turtleneck with an asymmetrical hem from BCBGeneration. In the warmer months, the fringe will only get longer and lighter, so GET READY.
Holographic
Nope, it’s not going away quite yet. The holographic look, most commonly worn on puffer jackets, sneakers, fanny packs, and backpacks like this shiny one from the one and only ASOS, is here to stay for a bit. We love it as a statement piece, and the best part is that it’ll be “in” from now through next winter (not to mention it’s PERFECT for festival szn).
