Politics

• The 2018 midterm election resulted in the Senate being controlled by Republicans and the House being controlled by Democrats.
• Trump called for the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, causing many to worry about the future of Special Counsel Mueller’s Russia Investigation. Trump’s interim replacement for Sessions is raising some eyebrows due to his history of bias against Mueller’s investigation.
• History was made in the 2018 midterm elections with the election of many women and minorities.
• CNN reporter Jim Acosta has been suspended from the White House after a heated exchange with Trump that led to an intern getting involved and trying to take Acosta’s microphone away. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is being accused of sharing a doctored video of the exchange, which had been aired live earlier, that makes it look like Acosta swiped the intern’s arm.
• After a black reporter asked Trump about his nationalist rhetoric, and whether he thought it “emboldened white nationalists,” Trump called her question “racist.”

Pop culture

• Ariana Grande released her new single “thank u, next” 30 minutes before this week’s episode of Saturday Night Live aired. Pete broke his silence on their split, as well. Twice.
• Kanye West has had a weird week on Twitter, from denouncing his political affiliations, to tweeting a prayer and accidentally attaching a pic of Kim Kardashian in her underwear. It was quickly deleted.
• Kylie Jenner revealed on social media that Kylie Cosmetics would soon be sold at Ulta stores nationwide, starting with Lip Kits and then extending to other products.
• Halsey addressed the rumors of a possible romance with John Mayer on Twitter.
• Nathan Sykesone of Ariana Grande’s exes, said it was “good” that he was left out of “thank u, next.”

Humanity

• Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is receiving medical care after falling in her office and fracturing new ribs.
• The midterm election turnout hit a 50-year high, particularly in young people.
• 12 people including a sheriff’s deputy were killed, and more were injured, when a gunman opened fire in a Southern California bar Wednesday night. The gunman was also killed.
• Californians voted to make Daylight Savings Time permanent, but it could take a while for anything to happen.
• An Obama-era birth control mandate is being rolled back by Trump, which will allow employers to deny insurance coverage for birth control on religious grounds.

Science says...

• Scientists have unveiled the bones of an ancient sea monster found in Angola.
• NASA has just revealed a picture of a “flying saucer” that crash-landed in a Utah desert in 2004. Unfortunately, “no space aliens were involved.”
• Researchers have uncovered a “network” in the brain that can determine whether someone is happy or sad, which may be able to help us better understand mood disorders.
• Scientists are testing whether electricity can be produced from bacteria-covered mushrooms.
• A study on the genetic makeup of parasitic worms has given scientists new information of how they may be penetrating the human body, and how they could possibly be treated.
