You will meet so many people during your first few weeks of college, but where do you start with someone you know nothing about? It can be really intimidating for some and starting conversations with strangers can be daunting. Remember that everyone is in the same boat, so be yourself and you’ll soon find people who are just like you. Here are our top 5 tips on how to break the ice when meeting new people and how to make new friends in freshers week:
1. Introduce Yourself To Neighbors
As soon as you arrive in your new dorm, throw yourself into the deep end and go and introduce yourself to neighbors. Making the effort to get to know people may mean venturing outside of your comfort zone, but that is what college is all about! Of course, you'll probably have a roommate so why not take them with you - double trouble!2. Leave Your Door Open And Listen To Music
One of the things most students forget to take to college but one of the most important; a doorstop. Wedging your door open in the first few weeks shows you are approachable, easy going and friendly to others and creates a chance to make conversation. Whack on your favorite music and the ice is broken!3. Wear A Cute Shirt
Basically, by this we mean wear your best outfits and you're guaranteed to get some complements on your favorite shirt or shoes. Whoever compliments you is basically your college spirit animal, you clearly have the same taste! If you're rocking that awesome bright yellow UNIF dress and a girl tells you she loves it, you could just be best friends for life. &hl=en Don't forget to grab the limited time only 20% off UNIF before it's too late!4. Make Everyone Your Favorite Dinner
Friendships are always formed when there’s food involved. Offer to make your dorm neighbors dinner one night for a chance to get to know each other. This is perfect if you have self-catering of course, not so easy if you have a dining hall. I was in a flat with 9 other girls and 6 of them were Chinese students. To break the ice and bond with each other we had nights where we would all cook our favourite dish and everyone would try each others. The girls had never tried lasagna before so that went down a treat! 5. Socialise
The best way to break the ice at uni is to socialise as much as possible. Whether it’s going out, joining in with fancy dress, organising a movie night in or sitting in the communal area chatting to flatmates. If you’re feeling homesick, shutting yourself away won’t make you feel any better. The people around you will be going through the same thing so keep yourself busy and you’ll soon be having too much fun to miss home!Join UNiDAYS Now For Free Student Discount
