It's called fashion, look it up.
Another New York fashion week has come and gone. While some of the collections are giving me serious wardrobe envy (here's looking at you insert brand here) others are just... no. Yes, I get that not all fashion is meant for everyone but sometimes you have to wonder just what was going through the designer's head. That being said, let's focus on the brands you can find here at UNiDAYS. Without further ado... here is the UNiDAYS NYFW round-up:
Adidas x Daniëlle Cathari
In 2017, Daniëlle Cathari designed a collection of reconstructed vintage tracksuits for a class project. Adidas is well known for its collaborations with fresh young designers as well as artists with an eye for fashion. This collaborative collection is split into two very distinct selections: the first is retro tracksuits representing four major cities while the second is athletic apparel with streetwear appeal and feminine tailoring.
Club Monaco
Rather than having a traditional fashion show, Club Monaco presented its spring collection by creating an interactive installation at its 5th Avenue flagship store. There were also additional mini-installations throughout New York and Brooklyn. Titled "Now You See Me", the installation created a space for the public to see themselves AND Club Monaco's spring collection.
Perry Ellis
The Perry Ellis runway show highlighted their Fall/Winter collection as well as the direction they were headed for Spring. RuPaul's Drag Race queen Milk (whose real name is Daniel Donigan) opened the show which heralded the idea behind its Spring campaign "Life Ready Since 1976". This particular campaign is set to direct focus back on the brand's heritage.
French Connection
Known for its FCUK branding, French Connection made its NYFW debut this year. To highlight the artistic nature of the collection, guests were invited to Gallery 151 in Chelsea and were treated to a curated jewelry bar by Martine Ali as well as a cocktail party and impromptu runway show.
Rag & Bone
Much like Club Monaco, Rag & Bone also forwent the traditional fashion show instead choosing to display their Spring/Summer 2018 collection through a short film. The film, which stars Ansel Elgort and Kate Mara, was an experimental collaboration. This is very on brand for Rag & Bone as in previous years they have also rejected traditional fashion shows (last year their collection was unveiled in a portrait series).
