The rom-com is back

If you haven't already watched To All the Boys I've Loved Before, then you need to stop what you're doing and open Netflix to watch it RIGHT NOW. I'm serious, you can come back to this article later. If you HAVE watched it, then you know exactly why we need to talk. It's one of the best rom-coms to have come out in a long time and if anything proves we need more stories like it. The world may be trash but when we have feel-good films like To All the Boys I've Loved Before... anything seems possible. Now, let's get down to business and talk about some of the things that make it one of the best movies of 2018.

The story

To All the Boys I've Loved Before follows Lara Jean Song Covey (a sixteen-year-old half-Korean, half-Caucasian girl) that is extremely close with her older sister, Margot (who is headed off to college in Scotland and dating one of the boys Lara Jean writes a letter to). Based on the novel of the same name, the story focuses on what happens when Lara Jean's younger sister Kitty mails the 5 letters Lara Jean had written to boys she'd had all consuming crushes on (and never intended to mail). Everything about it is relatable (namely the mortifying idea that something you never intended to be seen is seen by the very person it's about) and will make you relive all the best (and most cringeworthy) moments of high school.

The fashion

This is only a small part in the work of art that is To All the Boys I've Loved Before. It definitely made me wish I'd taken the time to put outfits together when I was in high school. Then again, the dress code in film/tv world seems to be VERY different from the real world. That being said, whether it's Lara Jean's vintage boots or Peter's cozy hoodies... we can all agree that the movie was an aesthetic masterpiece.

The cast

You heard it here first, this cast is going places. The movie is full of newcomers like Noah Centineo (SWOON), Israel Broussard, and Lana Condor as well as familiar names like John Corbett and Janel Parrish. Everything about the relationships on screen seem to be real, from Lara Jean and her sisters to Lara Jean and her boys. If anything, I'm almost sad that this is just a movie and not a series I can binge-watch for hours on end. Outside of the film, the cast all seems to be genuinely friends and like one another which makes me want to see them all together forever.
