You might not be moving to another city for uni, but your student experience is definitely only as exciting as you make it. We’re here to help you try something new this semester and experience everything that Melbourne has to offer.
Melbourne Events
Enjoy the last of the Summer sun at some of Melbourne's awesome events. In the next few weeks, try out the Holi festival of colours, the Yarra Valley beer and wine festival and of course the cheese and wine festival. If you're arty and have a few hours to kill on a gloomier day, head to the National Gallery of Victoria and check out the Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei exhibition.Be A Tourist For A Day
You often find that when you've lived somewhere for so long, you've never visited some of the city’s top tourist attractions. It might seem like a pretty standard day out, but Melbourne has some of the best sights to see and places to visit. One of my favourite day trips is to Phillip Island to enjoy the beautiful beaches, delicious chocolate factory and of course the incredible penguin parade. It really is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city and an ideal road trip to take with friends.Melbourne Eats
Melbourne is home to some of the best places to eat in Australia with cafe's and restaurants on every corner; you're spoilt for choice. If you've sussed out your local hot spots, try exploring another suburb and seeing what they have to offer. If you're South side, head to Uncommon in Windsor or The Kettle Black. If you're a North sider, choose Naughty Boy Café or Addict for their corn fritters and delicious range of juices.Make Some New Friends
Just because you're living at home, doesn't mean you can't make new friends. Melbourne is among the best for its social scene so put yourself out there and meet new people. The city has a wide range of organised meet up groups for people wanting to make new friends and for people that are new to the city. It's a great opportunity to meet new people, share experiences and travel tips and enjoy new company. It's not as daunting as you might think and they organise cool day trips and nights out to ease the pressure!Travel
Living in Melbourne whilst you’re at uni gives you a lot of opportunity to travel and see other close by Australian cities for long weekend breaks or during holidays. With Tassie on your doorstep and Adelaide just an hour’s flight away, it’s the perfect excuse to plan a fun filled few days away. If you opt for Tasmania, make sure you catch a glimpse of the Southern Lights and go and see the waterfalls at the Great Western Tiers mountain range. Staying in hostels while you travel means you can travel cheaply as well as meeting new people and having a completely new experience every time you go.Find A New Hobby
There are so many activities in Melbourne for you to enjoy in your spare time. Try something new and join a rowing club and take in the gorgeous scenery of the river at the weekends or try yoga to keep you calm and collected during hectic study sessions. Hobbies are always a great way of bringing people together who have similar interests which means more fun times with new friends. Winning!Even more from UNiDAYS
