Travel the world and earn money as you go, that’s the impossible dream right? Well, it could be a lot easier than you think. There are plenty of ways to make a few bucks on the road and they don’t all need years of experience and qualifications.
1. Work in hostels
Hostels all over the world recruit a large portion of their workforce from the steady flow of guests that come through their doors. Often people will work for a few days or weeks in exchange for a bed and a couple of beers, but there are also longer term contracts available that offer that plus cash on top.
2. Get a job on a boat
Working on cruise ships, yachts or sailboats are all great ways to get out there and see the world. You’ll find opportunities for everything from deckhands to children’s entertainers, and it’s an exciting way to move from place to place while earning some moolah. Just as long as you’re not prone to seasickness.
3. Teach a language
There are plenty of countries which are crying out for native English speakers to work in their schools. But it’s not just English that people want to learn and it’s not only schools where you can work. If you have any language under your belt, you’ll find opportunities all over the world.
4. Fruit picking
This is an extremely popular option in places like Australia for people able to get a working holiday visa. It’s usually pretty easy to get a temporary position doing this during harvest season and though it’s hard, physical work, the pay is decent and you’ll meet plenty of new friends.
5. Do some au pair work
If you’re a responsible kind of person and you love spending time with kids then this might be the ideal role for you. You’ll be living for free with a host family who will also pay you to take care of their children for a set number of hours per week.
6. Become a tour guide
Though you don’t need any qualifications, you will need to do some swotting up on the subject of the tour. Many tours are now done on a paid-in-tips basis so you’ll need to have an outgoing personality and be able to engage a group in order to make good cash.
7. Get a job in hospitality
No matter where you go in the world there will always be bars and restaurants looking for waiting staff. It’s easy to pick up on a casual basis meaning you can move on whenever you want, and if you’re fun you might earn a good amount in tips as well.
8. Become a digital nomad
It’s a broad term but it’s what is widely used to describe someone who works online and travels the world. Like us! If you can write, programme, graphic design, build websites or do anything else that only requires an internet connection and a laptop then you’re onto a winner. There are literally infinite ways to make money while travelling the world, these are just a few of the most common and accessible ones. With a little bit of imagination and hustle, you can find something that will pay no matter where you are.
