Here at UNiDAYS, we do love our games. We also happen to have a cheeky offer that gets you up to £80 off bundles on the Xbox store! Unless you needed any more encouragement to take the Xbox plunge, here are a few of our Tech Team talking about a few of the Xbox games that they enjoyed in the last year!
Chris loved Rocket League
What is it?
One of the most addictive and simple games in recent memory. "Football with rocket cars" is all you need to know. Developers Psyonix have provided a consistent stream of free updates since its release, including new game modes and arenas, and the ability for Xbox One players to play cross platform with their PC-playing friends!
How does it make you feel?
“I'm thinking about playing my next game of Rocket League while I'm supposed to be writing this blog post. Addicted.”
Patrick loved Overwatch
What is it?
Blizzard decided to make a game in the first person shooter genre. Oh no, not another one I hear you shout. Well, no, it is and it mostly isn't. Instead it has more of a Team Fortress feel, with big larger than life characters that actually matter in your gameplay.
But everything in every respect has the devil in the detail. The environments, the characters, their emotes, their grafitti, everything screams quality and time.
Multi-award winning, massive sales, continuing free high quality content, this game has been judged consistently to be one of the very best. I bought an Xbox on the strength of this game alone.
How does it make you feel?
“I don't feel like I'm addicted, perhaps just one more game.”
Rob loved Battlefield 1
What is it?
A game that deals with real life atrocities endured during the dark time that was WW1. Good graphics paired with exciting gameplay and less sophisticated weaponry brings the barbaric feel of warfare that was presented to people enlisted at the time.
This game nails the claustrophobic ambience from being inside a confined landship tank, to wearing a gas mask with inadequate visibility. Best experienced on a large UHD TV with a quality sound system for maximum immersion!
How does it make you feel?
“Story mode: Empathetic. Online multiplayer: RAAAAAAAAGE!”
Nathan loved Dark Souls 3
What is it?
Addictive rogue-like, action RPG that will make you want to cry in despair. Provides unparalleled sense of achievement after beating frightening, large scale bosses.
How does it make you feel?
“Anger - after repeatedly dying. Overwhelming relief - after defeating a boss. Awe - exploring the game world.”
Sam loved Ori & the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition
What is it?
Brilliant and beautiful. Frustrating yet balanced. Ori & the Blind Forest is a tricky little platformer that brings far more emotion to the table than you'd traditionally expect from its genre. The definitive edition adds a few bits of missing content and gives you an opportunity to enjoy this game all over again. Plus the soundtrack is incredible. How does it make you feel? “Aaaaargh! Oh thank goodness! Aaaaargh! Daaaaaw!” sobs in a corner
Louis loved Doom
What is it?
Last year, DOOM proved that there is life in the linear FPS yet. With its breakneck pace and intelligent level design, it was a successful melding of modern game mechanics while remaining faithful to its legendary predecessor. A breath of fresh air for the oversaturated first-person shooter market.
How does it make you feel?
“GODLIKE!”
Paula loved Overcooked
What is it?
On the face of it, Overcooked is a cute little cooking simulation. In reality it's a frantic dash around the kitchen, yelling at the other players, trying desperately to keep things from catching on fire and aaaargh those rats and the washing up and can we just get one more burger out, people? No? Well, great. Steve, you're fired. I need new friends now. And a new significant other.
How does it make you feel?
“Angry.”
