We've teamed up with the well-travelled guys at Gecko's Adventures to bring you the best destinations of 2018. Read on and get booking.
Vietnam
A trip to Vietnam is worth it for the food alone. Banh Mi, Bun Cha, Pho, the list goes on. And on.
One of the most popular routes when travelling Vietnam is to take the train from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh, along the coast. This allows you to stop off at some of the amazing beachside towns like Hoi An and Nha Trang. Hit up the beaches, get some clothes tailor made and feast on all the Phở you can possibly imagine.
A night spent sleeping on a boat on Halong Bay is a must. Swim in the turquoise waters among limestone karsts that jut out of the water at all angles.
Morocco
If you’ve booked in a Europe trip, but are looking to add on a an extra week of something totally different to Europe, then Morocco is your best choice. Flights from Europe to Morocco are relatively cheap, with a number of budget airlines now flying there. Mix up your time between pristine beaches and the dessert, while eating ALL the foods in between.
Ride a camel through the desert to Todra Gorge, where you can sleep under the stars. Here you’ll get a glimpse into traditional Berber culture.
Visit Fez and Marrakech to explore (and get lost) in the medinas. These market places are mazes of spices, traditional Moroccan products and amazing street food.
Peru
Peru has become a red hot destination for travellers wanting to well and truly get off the beaten track in recent years.
If the Inca Trail is on your bucket list, do it now! The trail has introduced strict visitor quotas, which aim to make sure the tourist attraction remains sustainable for years to come.
Visit the birthplace of The Incas at Lake Titicaca for a taste of traditional Peruvian life. Here you can spend the night sleeping under the stars in an OG village.
Central America – Mexico & Guatemala
Don’t listen to your mum. Mexico and Guatemala are totally safe places to visit if you follow the rules and stick to the right areas.
You haven’t lived until you’ve sat in a gutter somewhere in Mexico, eating street food from a plastic plate, with spicy hot salsa dripping down your arm. Wash it down with a giant cup of icy aqua de Jamaica, and you’ll wonder why you’ve ever eaten anything else in your life before.
Beach hop from Playa Del Carmen to Tulum (skip Cancun) in the South of Mexico, then head to Guatemala, with a stop in on one of the islands of Belize if you have time.
Thailand
Can’t stomach the thought of hitting up Bali with every other Bintang singlet wearing, boozed up Aussie? That’s cool, just travel a little bit further to Thailand for a South East Asia experience that is a little more authentic.
If you’re after island vibes, schedule in time for Koh Samui. Here you can swim, snorkel and visit waterfalls. Accommodation ranges from budget to super luxurious, so take your pick depending on your wallet status.
Khao Sok National Park in the south of Thailand is home to one of the oldest evergreen rainforests in the world. Visit the national park and sleep in a treehouse while you’re there.
