“But what do you order when you eat out?”
Whether you’re a vegan, a vegetarian or just a meat reducer trying to do your bit for the planet, you’ve probably been asked this a million times already! What is it with meat lovers that can’t get their head around the fact that food doesn’t always = meat!?
The fact is, you don’t have to lose any of the flavours when dropping the meat and eating out veggie style isn’t all mushrooms and bread. To prove my point, I’ve lined up 7 of the best meat-free eats for you guys to try out.
1. The Peacock, Nottingham
The Peacock is Nottingham’s first 100% vegan pub. That’s right, everything from the fish and chips, to the spare ribs, is completely vegan. Being a pub there are several beers and ciders on offer, of course, all vegan-friendly too!
2. Food for Friends, Brighton
Food for Friends is a seriously swanky in the lanes of Brighton. It’s playing a big part in a new level of meat-free restaurants, looking to offer a more upmarket feel. Tofu sesame lollipops and satay tempeh skewers are just some of the items on offer here.
3. Black Cat Cafe, Hackney
One thing that seems to put meat eaters off of vegetarian meals is that they feel too distant from what they’re used to eating. The Black Cat Cafe in Hackney throws this aside though by offering classics such as their cruelty-free fry up, beef-style burgers with fries and delicious almond milkshakes.
4. Mildreds, Soho
If you’re a lover of meat-free eats and scandi vibes, Mildred’s is the place for you. Originally started back in the 80’s Mildred’s has taken a modern turn and now offers amazing meat-free eats such as Sri Lankan sweet potato curry and their Tokyo Bowl with miso glazed aubergine and shichimi edamame beans.

5. The Waiting Room, Deptford
Want to eat meat-free but still want something proper dirty? The Waiting Room is all about the buffalo wings, sticky ribs and hot dogs and absolutely not about the kale salad, yo! If you’re a fan of craft beer and books, you’re also in for a treat. The fridges are packed with Beavertown and Brewdog beers and there’s even a community library inside.
6. The Old Hardware Shop, Liverpool
Finding veggie friendly restaurants in London is a breeze but this time we’re in Liverpool. This family run joint is 100% vegetarian but states that pretty much everything can be made vegan too! We’re talking brunch, cheese toasties, hot dogs and delicious peanut butter milkshakes!
7. V Revolution, Manchester
Looking for a vegan restaurant in Manchester? Dying to get your hands on a burger or some delicious pizza fries? Then V Rev is the one for you! This American style diner is serving up 100% vegan food that looks amazing. From a Buffalo the Vampire Slayer burger to Guac to the Future, I just wanna try it all!
