September may signify the end of summer, but it also marks the start of a new uni term, and we all know what that means. A whole roster of amazing events to look forward to! Whether you're after a final slice of festival fun or want to watch your favourite movie outdoors (while catching the last of the summer sunshine), September is looking mighty fine, and to make sure you don’t miss out, we’re here to give you the low-down. You better clear your diary though; you won’t wanna miss out on one of these epic happenings.
1. Prohibition Party- London
Bourne & Hollingsworth’s Prohibition Party is back this September, and it’s all kinds of glamorous. Grab a feather bower and put on a flapper dress or your fanciest suit, because 1920’s attire is obviously compulsory at this grandiose affair. If you arrive early, you can warm up for your big night out with a pre-show Charleston dance before you decide to lose a few bucks on the roulette table, followed by finding the venue’s secret party room.
2. Fever-Tree Gin School - London
If you love nothing better than a G&T, you really should enrol yourself at the Fever-Tree Gin School. We know what you’re thinking, but you won’t be sitting through any old boring lecture at this gin-fuelled evening. You’ll be learning two essential life lessons; which gin you love the most, and which tonic best pairs with it. You can expect a refreshing G&T upon arrival, before you unleash your experimental side making your very own distilled bottle to take home, alongside a selection of Fever-Tree goodies.
3. Pins & Pin Up Party - London
If you’re a sucker for all things vintage, you need to head to the Pins & Pin Up Party at All Star Lanes this month. Expect a 1950’s extravaganza with vintage bowling, cocktails and American-style food. There will be retro cosmetics, fashion stalls and hair styling from special guests like Miss Victory Violet and What Katie Did on the night too, so you can nail that quirky look you’ve been pining for.
4. Independent Birmingham Festival - Birmingham
Thought festival season was over? You better think again because the Independent Birmingham Festival is back, celebrating all things wonderful and unique about the city. Expect a delightful offering of pop-up restaurants, mouth-watering street food, and plenty of craft beer and cocktails to keep you going throughout the day. There will be live music and tonnes of other activities to help celebrate the independent retailers, artists and folk of Brum too.
5. Manchester Whisky Festival - Manchester
Whether you’re a keen whisky drinker or you simply want to be enlightened about the spirit, the Manchester Whisky Festival is a must-visit this September. You’ll start your evening with a tasting session where you’ll be presented with a Glencairn Crystal glass, which will be your trusty friend when you choose from over 100 world whiskies. If you want the full experience, opt for a full session, where you’ll get to try exclusive ‘under the counter’ drams.
6. Glasgow Oktoberfest - Glasgow
Oktoberfest is back for another year of beer-fuelled revelry, and Glasgow is kicking off the celebrations with an almighty party in Galvanizers Yard at SWG3. Set in a Bavarian-style beer hall, you can expect two days packed with German beer, golden pretzels, authentic bratwurst and live performances from an Oompah band. Get your finest lederhosen and dirndls at the ready…
7. Alcotraz: Prison Cocktail Bar - London
Looking for a new past time? How about drinking cocktails in prison? Stay with us. Alcotraz is London’s newest pop-up bar, and it’s criminally good. Like any prison, you’ll be given your sentence and a lovely orange jumpsuit, but you’ll also be given the opportunity to sneak some drinks past your warden and into your cell. Think you’ve got what it takes? There’s only one way to find out...
8. Open Air Cinema - Cardiff
If you haven’t been to a pop-up cinema event this year, now’s the time to address the error of your ways because The Luna Cinema is screening some amazing films at the grounds of Cardiff Castle. Pick from the likes of Top Gun, Grease and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone for the ultimate movie night under the stars.
9. Kebab-ingham Festival - Birmingham
Kebabs may be synonymous with the end of a night out, but that’s not to say they don't deserve their own festival. Birmingham foodie favourites, Taste & Liquor, have answered all our prayers and created Kebab-ingham; a whole day that’s dedicated to your favourite kebabs; we’re talking doner, sheesh, Indian, shawara and souvlaki.
10. Slider Decider at The Botanist - London
If you love burgers and you’re after an amazing way to spend a Saturday afternoon this September, Slider Decider has your name written all over it. 16 contestants from a handful of London’s best restaurants will be descending on Broadgate Circle to cook up a storm for your dining pleasure. Chomp your way through their perfected grilled delights before a team of experienced foodies decide who wins the mini-burger crown. After the competition, you can grab a cocktail and make the most of the live music playing into the evening.
