Seeing as it’s such an important staple in getting through everyday life in London, we contacted DesignMyNight for their top 10 picks across the city. So, what are you waiting for? Go grab a slice of the action.
1. Ray’s Bar
Venture down to 95 Kingsland High Street and you’ll find one of Dalston’s newest and coolest hangouts; Ray’s Bar. These guys have a three-course liquid menu divided into starters, mains and desserts, but the crowning jewel of this place is that you can tuck into Voodoo Ray’s upstairs menu. Their regular pizza slices are the size of an average person's face. Slices start from £3.50 but you can grab a whopping 22inch for £26. There are loads of options to choose from but go for The King Tubby. It’s topped with fennel and chilli sausage, kale, caramelised onions, vine cherry tomatoes, and tonnes of mozzarella.
2. Tank and Paddle
If you’re after a pocket-friendly option, look no further than Tank and Paddle. They have no less than eight pizzas on their menu, with a regular sized paddle coming in at just £7. Choose from the likes of the Holy Smokes that comes topped with pulled chicken, smoked bacon strips and BBQ sauce, and the Billy Goat’s Stuffed, which is presented with dollops of sweet chutney and chunks of goat’s cheese. They have loads of offers running midweek and a shuffleboard on site too, making them a popular city hangout.
3. Old Street Records
Planning date night in the big bad city? Old Street Records have an amazing pizza deal that runs every week from Monday to Wednesday. Choose any two cocktails from their classic section alongside any two pizzas, and pay a measly £15 for the lot. Take our advice and let your eyes wander to the last option on the menu. The Quattro Stagioni features fior di latte, prosciutto, artichoke, mushrooms and olives; it’s sure to answer your pizza and date night prayers.
4. Dream Bag Jaguar Shoes
Dream Bag Jaguar Shoes is constantly changing its interiors, making it one of east London’s most artistic and unusual bars. Just as impressive as its creativity are its pizzas. Made to order, their stone-baked beauties come topped with everything from spicy salami to Sardinian sausage. Heading here with some friends? They serve most of their pizzas by the metre and host regular DJ nights to keep you happily scoffing into the night.
5. Bounce
We’re never ones to exaggerate, but Bounce in Shoreditch have a pizza line-up to satisfy the pickiest of eaters. Whether you want to play it safe with a Margherita topped with buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil, or get adventurous with unique inventions that use Kashmiri chicken and paneer cheese; you’re in for some of the best slices of your life. These fun-lovin’ criminals also serve their famous brunch pizzas on weekends - make sure to try their eggs benedict number.
5. Trade Union
Relive your childhood and head to Trade Union; they boast an indoor slide and dreamy pizza from Bushwick Pizza Co. Once you’re done throwing yourself down the slide, order one of their New York-inspired slices. The chefs use seasonal ingredients and techniques from some of the best Italians in Brooklyn. If you’re visiting with some recruits, go for the Quatro which comes sprinkled with prosciutto, spicy luganiga sausage meat, roast fennel, courgette and three different kinds of cheese.
6. Mayfair Pizza Co.
The majority of pizzas at Mayfair Pizza Co. are priced around £13, but by Giuseppe are they worth it. Their crispy, thin based pizzas are studded with everything from salami to pulled pork, but if you’re feeling creative, order their Margherita and play around with the toppings section. It’s the perfect pizzeria to settle down in if you want to celebrate something special.
7. The Bat and Ball
Resting in the heart of Stratford, The Bat and Ball is known as a table tennis temple among Londoners. But they also have a smashing drinks collection made up of cocktails, craft beer and wine, not to mention a fantastic food menu. Well Street Pizza is responsible for providing the Neapolitan-style pizzas that star on the menu of this lively joint, and they have a cracking 2-4-1 offer that runs all day on Mondays.
8. Heist Bank
Expand your pizza horizons this year and make tracks for Heist Bank. Revolting against the pepperoni pitfall, they use unique ingredients to garnish their cheesy works of art. Expect to find the likes of cauliflower, Jerusalem artichoke and Cashel blue cheese skimming the top of your pizza base.
9. Pizza Pilgrims
If you ever have ‘one of those days’, bets are, Pizza Pilgrims can sort you out. Their guilty pleasure offering starts at a very reasonable £5.50, with their most expensive pizza amounting to £10. They have a few sites dotted around London too, but their Soho plot serves classic cocktails and it has a foosball table. ‘Knead’ we say anymore?
