As if it’s the end of 2018 already. I know literally everyone, including myself, ‘can’t believe’ how fast this year has gone but, seriously?! BAM we’re in 2019 and it’s time for the New Year New You and that includes your wardrobe. Here are some trends and style essentials for the new year to make you feel fresh and look awesome.
1. Take a hike
Thanks to Little Miss Jungle herself, Holly Willoughby, hiking boots have really become the shoe of the moment and I am loving them. Here, I’m wearing the Kris chunky boots that you can grab with 15% off from Ego Shoes with your UNiDAYS discount. These bad boys come in 5 different colour ways, all with funky laces and they even have a leopard print pair.
I can also vouch for how awesomely comfy they are AND they look awesome with jeans and skirts. Hello, versatile! These are the perfect winter boots for keeping your toes cosy but as Holly’s shown us in the jungle, they can look seriously sweet with denim shorts and bare legs. Keep these bad boys for the winter and rock ‘em in the summer for festivals or, ya know, when you’re presenting jungle-related TV programmes.
2. Totally tonal
Hues that are super similar and complementary are big in the style world right now and can make for a super chic outfit without even trying. Pairing all black together is the easiest way to nail the tonal look but go brave and wear all pink and you’ll surprise yourself with how sassy you feel in a day to day outfit.
Remember my sustainability in fashion post? This trend is perfect for seeing what you already own and styling things up differently from your wardrobe or, seeking out some gems in charity shops. Try autumn colours, all beige everything and even top to toe green - have fun with this trend, you never know whether you’ll find a fave new outfit.
- Marigold yellow Similarly to the tonal trend, this colour is big right now. Perfect for brightening up winter outfits with jeans and bikers but also looks awesome moving into spring. How about yellow for a night out? Missguided are seriously killing this trend with this cowl neck mini. Leather biker and black barely there heels? Yes to this outfit.
Next up in the mellow yellow trend is this killer Topshop yellow suit. Again, perfect for a fancy night out but also amazing as separates. I’d rock this blazer with blue jeans and a plain white tee and the trousers on their own with a black cami for a simple but striking party outfit.
4. Leopard skirt
We all thought the animal print skirt was a bit of a summer fling, didn’t we? Oh no. This bad boy took us through autumn and seamlessly into winter without the bat of an eyelid. Perfect with a cami and sandals for summer, pair with ankle boots and knitwear for autumn and pop it on with tights and an aviator jacket for winter. The leopard print skirt is the most versatile piece in my wardrobe and I’ll definitely be taking mine through to 2019. Check out the gorge Chloe Plumstead in hers, stunningly styled for autumn here. Visit New Look for your animal-print fix before the year is up.
5. Say it to me straight
Straight leg jeans are definitely an essential I’ll be taking from 2018 into 2019. I love my skinnies and definitely wear them more than most jeans but when I’m feeling like I want to look a little bit cooler, a little bit more like I’ve actually thought about an ‘outfit’ - straight leg denim is where I head. Topshop have awesome denim and they’re super affordable too. A washed black pair and a mid blue pair are all you need to add life to your 2018 wardrobe in 2019.
Done! One trend led piece, one styling idea, a new colour to try, one surprisingly versatile piece that you might already own and one timeless staple that’s worth investing in. Those are my five fashion items that I will most definitely be taking into the New Year to refresh my wardrobe and, of course, my Insta feed.
