For those of you that didn’t know, January is a pretty big deal when it comes to fashion. It’s actually the month when we start looking forward to AW18 (already, I know) and the shows in Paris, Milan and London have all just about wrapped up.
Catwalk shows can definitely be a bit hit and miss. But if you look between the sheer vests and dodgy man skirts you can definitely find some key trends.
I’ve picked out 5 of my favourite trends with a couple of ways you can wear them so you can get ahead of the crowd! Check them out:
1. Trainers with everything
You’ll have probably seen people beginning to merge trainers with more formal looks and this is set to continue in a big way. Whether you’re going streetwear, skate or minimal - trainers can be paired with a variety of looks. Throw some 70’s consand baggy trousers on for the heritage look or a solid pair of blue jeans and some Stan Smith for a chilled summer vibe.
2. Oversized
The oversized trend is all about hitting those proportions. If you’re going skinny down below then throw on some oversized knitwear and a bomber. Alternatively, if you’re loosening up in the leg department, going for a more tailored, workwear style jacket will balance you out. Oversized clothing is perfect for layering up and experimenting with so don’t be shy on this one. Topman has got the perfect oversized tee and denim jacket so you can keep bang on trend.
3. The not so skinny jeans
Skinny jeans have long been a staple in most men’s wardrobes but recently we’ve seen a big move to a more casual, loose-fitting bottom half. If you’re worried about moving too far away from your go-to skinnies then this slim fit option is a safe bet. Willing to go all the way? Opt for a straight fit pair of jeans or a balloon fit chino trouser.
4. Leather
I don’t think there’s ever been a fashion month that hasn’t involved some sort of leather. Buy a good quality biker jacket and you’re set. We’re seeing leather crop up in a variety of styles now… from the classic biker, the suede bomber and even the panelling on sweatshirts.
5. Heavy boots
Just as we have seen the rise of the trainer, the utility boot comes back with a powerful punch. Chunky soled, heavyweight boots are having a bit of a surge thanks to the heritage look becoming more and more popular. From hiking styles to high shine punk styles, it’s a look that can be worn in so many ways regardless of your personal style. For those with a bit of cash to burn, opt for the traditional Redwing boots and get yourself a pair that’ll last a lifetime. Or, invest in some trust Dr. Martens… you can’t go wrong!
