It may only be February but I've been getting all kinds of excited for festival season since the line-up for We Are FSTVL popped into my inbox. Featuring the likes of Fatboy Slim, Hot Since 82, Mistajam, Monki, Sub Focus, Redlight and Shy FX it's sure to be an amazing weekend. Also playing that weekend is the amazing Hannah Wants and we caught up with her for a little chat!

Hey Hannah! If you could give one piece of advice for up & coming DJs, what would it be?

H: If you’re chasing the DJ dream for the right reasons then never give up. I have people email me asking me why they haven’t been booked for a gig and they’ve been DJ’ing for three months. I didn’t get a paid gig for over three years, and rightly so! Things take time. You need to learn your trade, gain experience and be ready for the roller coaster ride! There’s so much more to DJ’ing than just playing some tunes. It’s an art. And most importantly, enjoy it! If I hadn’t broke through I can guarantee I’d still be DJ’ing in tiny bars to nobody because I love what I do.

What’s your favourite gig or festival you’ve ever played?

There’s seriously too many to mention. Some unreal gigs that spring to mind though would have to be Hideout Festival in Croatia, Amnesia in Ibiza, Creamfields, Parklife, We Are FSTVL... So many, and they’re all special for different reasons too!

Who are your biggest influences?

I get asked this question a lot, it’s such a broad question it’s hard to answer. EZ is and always has been my biggest influence as a DJ. Music as a whole influences me. Actually, Ron Costa’s drums are influencing / inspiring me right now production wise. Life in general influences and inspires me!

We’re based in Nottingham, what do you think about the music scene here?

I love playing in Nottingham. More specifically at Stealth, in fact it’s one of my favourite venues to play in the country. It’s the low ceiling, the dark lighting and the intimate vibes! I’m not sure when I’m back playing in Notts but I look forward to the day I return.

Favourite track or mix of the moment?

Completely not house music related at all but Jacquees new mixtape just dropped and I’m a big fan.

If you could only eat one thing forever, what would it be?

Egg fried rice.

This one’s hard to answer. It depends who it was with. I’m gonna go with a banter filled night out with best friends!

I’m not entirely sure what quinoa is so I’m gonna roll with quavers.
