We know the high school movie classics of the 90s and early 00s like 10 Things I Hate About You, She’s All That, Clueless and Mean Girls, to name a few. But what about the recent movies that continue to ruin our expectations for what school should be like?

Yah, this is every movie (made after 2005) that made me question why my school experience was so boring and uneventful and why the seniors weren’t hot models that were secretly in love with me.

1. 21 Jump Street (2012)

The only real thing about this movie was the fact that they were confused with the high school stereotypes.

Okay, this one is more like a satire on the problematic way people view others (which still turned out pretty problematic) but we can’t help be drawn in by makeovers and Jojo.

7. High School Musical 2 (2007)

HSM2 was better than HSM1, idc, fight me. Yeah, Breaking Free was good but Gotta Go My Own Way is a heart-wrenching BOP. Also, it’s pretty realistic because Gabriella’s mum was waiting to pick her up at the end of the song.

8. John Tucker Must Die (2006)

Imagine being in a school where the popular girls don’t know the goss on who each of them are dating!

THIS MOVIE WAS SO PROBLEMATIC but if Sierra Burgess can get Noah Centino after being a horrible person for the whole movie, I feel like I might have a chance at love.

Apart from wanting superpowers and having a popular person like you back and such, I always wondered what it was like to go to high school with Zendaya

If only Alex Turner's sultry tones were the soundtrack to my 16-year-old life.

This movie made me permanently worried about period stains and buying alcohol.

19. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Everyone was way too old and stylish for high school. Plus, I’ve always wondered what it’d be like to cause havoc in the school corridors (although the Lizard was never part of it)

I liked that the school went under internet marshall law when Bianca was cyberbullied, these issues need to be taken seriously!

21. The Edge of Seventeen (2016)

Probably one of the more believable high school movies in this list because Hailee Steinfeld killed it. But my teacher will never be as witty as Woody Harrelson.

I’ve experienced high school love and heartbreak, and it was because of this movie… okay? Okay. 😭
