It’s Aussie winter time and those guys in the Blue Mountains really know how to put a positive spin on it - with Yulefest! Every year thousands of revellers travel to the Blue Mountains for Christmas-themed festivities, from log fires to singalongs and the (occasional!) snowfall as well as sumptuous wintery treats.
Here at UNiDAYS® we don’t want anyone missing out so if travelling to the Blue Mountains for Yulefest isn’t an option, we’ve pulled together a collection of delicious winter sweet treats for you guys to try and to revel in the mid-year Yuletide cheer!
Sweet Tooth Extravaganza
The ultimate treat for all you sweet teeth out there! These nutella stuffed cinnamon donut cakes are just the thing for when it's grey outside and really helps give you a boost for the day - ignoring the sugar content in the things! As well as being so easy to make, you have the freedom to switch it up a bit and change around the fillings from peanut butter to jam and chocolate spread. Going Traditional
There are so many options with traditional treats to try out in celebration of Yulefest whether it’s plum pudding, mince pies, Christmas stollen and more. I’ve decided to stick with one of my faves - gingerbread. As well as being easy to actually make, gingerbread biccies can come in all shapes and sizes and so it’s easy to get your decorating juices flowing. One for the Choccy Lovers
Although not overly festive, I couldn’t resist including this in my list: the Ultimate Tim Tam Cake. It comes (personally) the best things in life - Tim Tams, chocolate and cake - to create something that is everything it's meant to be; rich, thick and oh so tasty. Guaranteed to go down a treat with anyone and everyone, I often go the extra step and sprinkle extra broken up Tim Tams across the top.Cheers to the Yuletide Season
Any Christmas-style feed need a similarly festive bevvy to wash it all down with and I’ve gone with yuletide mule - a delicious combo of dark rum, spices, honey and ginger beer which adds a boozy tropical twist to the very (choc heavy!) and wintry choices so far. In contrast to mulled wine this drink is served over ice and so is a little twist away from the traditional.Alternative Options
Not wanting to miss anyone out, this torta caprese can satisfy any gluten-free baking addict. By substituting any flour or raising agent for almonds, this torte has a unique but still moist texture. Whenever I’ve used this recipe I also sometimes added vanilla extract to sweeten it up a touch, but it depends on your own personal taste. Decorate with confectioner’s sugar & maybe some fresh fruit and you’re good to go! Join UNiDAYS® Now For Free Student Discount
