We get it. Knowing what to wear for a uni night out can be a big deal. You wanna make a good impression and look your best. But on a student budget, you might have to get creative with your ‘fits.

Night-out outfits for the girlies

The type of night out you’re planning will directly influence what you wear. You won’t choose the same outfit for a pub crawl and a big clubbing night, so we’ve put together some options for every kind of uni night out.

Casual night out

Heading to the local pub or heading to some bars? There’s no need to go all out with your outfit. For a casual night out, we love jeans and a nice top. Sounds cliché, but it’s a classic. The best part is, you’ve probs already got options in your wardrobe so there’s no need to spend money on new garms.

If the weather is a little cooler, you could opt for a midi or maxi skirt with a jumper or sweater. We’re seeing this vibe everywhere, paired with trainers, knee-high boots or classic Dr Martens. Wide-leg and baggy trousers are also an elite option with a bandeau top or a classic tee.

Club night

Clubbing nights are usually anything goes, which is great if you want to stand out. Just be sure to check the dress code for where you’re headed. For a classy vibe, it has to be a LBD, but don’t be afraid to try some colourful dresses too. ASOS always has a good selection of dresses if you want something new.

For those who spend their club nights on the dancefloor, you’ll want to avoid anything too restrictive. There’s nothing worse than buying a new outfit that looks banging but feels uncomfortable. If dresses aren’t your thing, a silk-style skirt with a loose-fitting top is a good alternative.

We also love a co-ord for a night out. Whether you choose a trouser, shorts, or skirt co-ord set, combining it with statement jewellery can elevate your entire look.

House party

House parties are more laid-back , so unless there is a dress code or fancy dress theme, feel free to get comfortable. Hollister offers a vast selection of comfies if you fancy a little refresh. Cargo trousers and casual tees are perfect for chilling out with your mates. To dress up a bit, you could pair cargos with a halter neck top in a vibrant colour or metallic finish.

Dinner

If there’s one thing students love more than partying, it’s food. If you’re heading out for some good grub, your fashion choices should reflect your restaurant decision. Blazers are an optimal choice for dinner, whether paired with jeans, trousers or a skirt.

For the cooler szns, we love a leather skirt. If you’re not sure what to wear with a leather skirt on a night out, it’s not as complex as you think. Neutral-coloured leather skirts look great with a smart jumper and knee-high boots but also complement a casual tee and blazer.

Night-out outfits for the boys

Just like fashion choices for the girls, the type of lads' night out you’re planning will have an impact on your decision.

Casual night out

Darts or pool at the pub anyone? A casual night out at the local calls for simple vibes. A good pair of jeans is a staple for this, and chances are, you’ve already got a favourite pair. If you haven’t, Levi’s should be your go-to, especially with UNiDAYS discount. Combine your jeans with a casual t-shirt and shacket or chequered shirt to keep the cold at bay.

A decent pair of trainers is a good option for the pub. You’ll want to be comfy and still look the part, so invest in trainers that both fit well and elevate your look. We’ve partnered with a bunch of retailers to get you the best footwear discounts.

Club night

If you’re planning a heavy night out, always check the dress codes.

While some clubs are anything goes, others will expect men to dress fairly smart. Pair dark jeans with a polo shirt and shoes, or even a t-shirt and smart blazer to lift your look.

If you know you’ll be throwing some shapes, tailored trousers are a good option. They can be effortlessly paired with a plain t-shirt and blazer, or even a shirt if you want to go all out. We love a good pair of patterned trousers with simple accompaniments. Think dog-tooth trousers with a plain white tee. Chefs kiss!

House party

Keep things casual and comfortable for house parties. We’re not saying you should wear your trusty old tracksuit but it is possible to keep things cosy. Get yourself a decent pair of tailored joggers or cargo trousers and pair them with a t-shirt for the ultimate casual look. Jeans and a tee or sweater can work well too.

Dinner

Whether you’re headed for some good food with new friends or you’ve plucked up the courage to go on a date, a good dinner outfit is both smart and casual. Dark blue jeans and a blazer are the ultimate combo. Pair them with formal shoes or boot-style trainers in a dark colour to ooze charisma.

Tailored trousers and shoes can be dressed up or down depending on the restaurant. If you’re heading somewhere ultra fancy, it’s worth investing in a good staple shirt that can be worn again.

Money-saving tips for night out outfits

While it’s tempting to buy a new outfit every time you have a night out, it’s not always practical. No matter what type of night out you’re having, keep things simple. It’s likely you already have a good pair of jeans and a few staple t-shirts that can be dressed up to transform a look.

Statement jewellery and a vibrant bag can elevate a ‘boring’ jeans and t-shirt look. Also, your go-to jeans and casual tees can be given a new lease of life with a smart jacket.

If you still want something new, it’s worth shopping in the sales, shopping second hand, or even checking out the local charity shops. If you’re in a big uni town, you can often find some real hidden gems in the nearby thrift shops. Our top tip? Make sure you always shop with your UNiDAYS student discount!
