10 ways to cope with stress

April is Stress Awareness Month, and let’s be real, uni stress comes for everyone. Here are 10 ways you can cope with stress as a student, we’ve got you.

1. Get moving

Whether you’re a fan of a gym sesh or prefer a home workout or hot girl walk, as long as you’re moving, you’re winning. Exercise = free serotonin, after all!

2. Sleep sleep sleep

Sleep can feel like a myth when deadlines are looming. But pulling all-nighters isn’t always the way. Aim for around 6-8 hours, and try and reduce your screen time at night too!

3. Take time for yourself

If you’ve been staring at the same paragraph for an hour, congrats—you defo need a break. Step outside, go for a coffee, or watch an episode of your comfort show.

4. Speak your mind

During stressful times, make sure you talk to someone. Your bestie, your mum, your dog, your notes app—it doesn’t matter. Just get it out! If you feel like you need to talk to a professional, BetterHelp is a great option.

5. Comparison is the thief of joy

You know your friend who somehow looks like they’re balancing studying, gym, social life, and self-care? They’re probably stressed, too. Try to stop comparing yourself to others and focus on your priorities.

6. Sing it out

Scream-singing your fave songs? Go for it. They say that music is therapy, so turn the volume up and let it out.

7. Tidy space, tidy mind?

Maybe it’s time to get into your spring clean era? You’ll feel instantly better if your space is clean and organised!

8. Try mindfulness

From apps to YouTube videos, it’s so easy to try mindfulness. Trust me, it actually works!

9. Learn to say no

FOMO is real, but so is burnout. If you’re exhausted, it’s 100% okay to cancel plans and have a night in. Your friends will survive without you for one night, promise.

10. Reach out for help

If stress is really getting to you, please talk to someone; no one expects you to have it all figured out. Asking for help = being kind to your mind.

Your mental health matters

Take a deep breath, be kind to yourself, and remember - you’re not alone in this.
