6 Tips for a budget-friendly city break

As a student, going on a girl’s holiday seems like a great way to de-stress from university and have some well overdue chill time, but planning an affordable trip can be pretty difficult. A weekend city break is an ideal trip for students and there are a few different ways to keep the costs down.

1.Airbnb

If you haven’t heard of it (and you’ve been living under a rock), Airbnb is a company where people rent out their rooms or houses for people to stay in, all over the world, usually at a low cost. It’s becoming one of the most used methods of accommodation and is especially great if you’re traveling in big groups, so you can divide the cost. It also means you can save money by cooking and eating in, so it’s a win-win. You can filter your searches to find the perfect place for you. Airbnb Plus has also been recently introduced, with homes verified for quality and comfort, for those looking for a bit more luxury.

2. Travel offseason

One of the beautiful things about university, is that depending on your course, the academic year usually finishes earlier than schools, so flights are often cheaper. Don’t wait until the Summer holidays to book your trip! If you’re one of the lucky students that doesn’t sit exams, you finish even earlier, so book that trip before the mad rush!

3. Flight sales

Another way to keep flight costs to a minimum is to look out for sales. Keep an eye out for the airlines who have huge sales off-peak and plan your holiday around the cheap ticket. If you can only fly during peak season, check out what kind of student discounts they offer.

4. Get a currency card

Instead of worrying about how much money to change up for your trip, invest in a currency card. That way you can get money out at a low cost from an ATM, top it up from an app whenever you need and not have the hassle of running out or ending up losing money by changing it back up again.

5. Walk

Not only will walking save you money on taxi’ s or buses, but you also get to see more of the city! Walking is a great way to explore and you’ll come across places that you might’ve otherwise missed. If there are places that you want to go that aren’t in walking distance, research your city’s weekly train pass to see if you can save that way.

6. Free things!

Google places and activities in the city that are free, such as museums and landmarks. Sightseeing doesn’t have to be expensive.

Before you book your next city break, take a bit of time to explore the cheapest options, to ensure you have the best budget-break you can.
