With the first play of Harry Styles’ new single Sign Of The Times in the UK on BBC Radio 1, there’s no doubt that he’ll be feeling the pressure to kick-start his solo career with a bang. No pressure, Harry!
So, now is the perfect time to look back at all the celebs who have gone solo and absolutely smashed it (sorry Victoria Beckham and Rachel Stevens, you definitely don’t make the cut).
1. Zayn
After leaving One Direction before the hiatus, Zayn Malik had a head start working on his debut solo album Mind Of Mine, which hit number 1 in the UK chart. Way to go Zayn! Do you think Harry’s debut album will achieve the same success? We’ll soon find out!
2. Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake is hardly recognizable from his days back in NSYNC, but his music has definitely taken a turn for the best with hits like Cry Me A River, SexyBack and Mirrors.
3. Alesha Dixon
M with the I with the S-T double E Q
From R&B, hip hop and garage anthems like Scandalous and All I Want to pop vibes like The Boy Does Nothing; lead singer, songwriter and rapper Alesha Dixon definitely had enough talent to make it by herself after leaving British pop band Mis-teeq behind.
4.Eminem
Lose Yourself, Not Afraid, The Real Slim Shady, Mockingbird… the list is endless and speaks for itself. D12 rose to fame after Eminem gained international fame, so really they were only ever nothing without him.
5. Beyoncé
The best known trio of Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams gives us all the 90’s feels with their girl power anthems... but we all know there’s only one queen in that band.
6. Robbie Williams
After leaving Take That in 1995 Robbie has gone on to release numerous records and win plenty of awards. Definitely better off without them hey Robbie!
7. Cheryl
I’m not quite sure if Cheryl is up there in the ‘smashed it solo’ category but she’s definitely done better than the rest of the girls, right? Although marrying England football player Ashley Cole might have something to do with it. Or was that a bit harsh? Oh well!
Make sure you let us know what you think to Harry’s new single Sign Of The Times and if you think he’ll make it solo or not. Why not tweet us what you think, get involved, come say hey!
