The weekend we’ve all been waiting for is finally here and soon everyone will be flocking to Heaton Park for a good boogie. No matter the weather the party will go on. If you’re heading to Parklife festival with no clue what to expect... it’s predominantly house and techno music, so here’s a quick run down of some of my favourite DJs from this ever exploding genre.
1. The Martinez Brothers
If you want the ultimate groove, catch these two at the Magic Sky stage where they will be bringing their bangers to you at their Cuttin’ Headz All Day Long set on Sunday with special guests who are bound to be big names, including their Tuskegee label partner Seth Troxler. There are sure to be some tunes that blow your head clean off with this heavy set trio that are surely going down in the books.
2. Eric Prydz
The holy grail of visual trance. This guy is must see, that’s if you can squeeze your way into the Hangar tent that is usually bursting at the seams. Last year his set was during a down pour of rain, so you can imagine how damn hard it was to get in there. If you wanna be sure to secure a good spot then you’ll probably have to go see the act before him too. If you think you can handle the close proximity then get yourself there on Saturday because he will take you on wavy journey with hypnotic lasers and mesmerising visuals that put any other set to shame.
3. Peggy Gou
The Queen of electro sound will keep you on your toes, literally. Not only will you want to groove non-stop, but you’ll definitely want to get the best glimpse of her because she is a literal goddess. With no doubt the coolest style in the techno scene, from her random tattoos to her funky shirts, she is the embodiment of her own groovy, tropical sound. Catch the Korean-born, Berlin-based in the Palm House on Saturday and let her transport you to the Bali bliss of a Potato Head Beach Club set where she has previously spread her good vibes.
4. Skream
The MVP of a techhouse tease, this legendary Londoner will give you unforgettable feel good time when he shows you what a real drop sounds like at what Mixmag has named the UK’s rowdiest festival. This guy is absolutely class and you will want to stay for his entire set at The Temple on Sunday where he will be playing alongside the Kaluki crew, including the likes of Jamie Jones who will go b2b with Marco Carola, Joseph Capriati and Richy Ahmed.
5. Patrick Topping
Last but certainly not least, the Geordie god of tech house will knock your socks off with a set that will make you wish time travel was possible. Paddy T’s tracks have taken off around the world and he is now playing the likes of Vegas, Bali, Ibiza, Miami and Barcelona to name a few. You can find his groovy sound at Circus Presents on Saturday. You will be kicking yourself if you miss this one.
