London – one of the best cities in the world when you’re in the market for trying something new. But, for those of us who require Halal meat, finding something reasonably priced as students can prove to be difficult. Here is my list of top 5 Halal restaurants in the city that don’t break the bank. Enjoy!
1. Yalla Yalla
Located off of Oxford Street, London’s Yalla Yalla is one of the best destinations for Beirut-style street food. They boast fast service, friendly staff, low prices, an authentic Lebanese atmosphere and some of the best grilled chicken! Rushed for time? No worries, they offer a range of filling wraps to go. To truly enjoy this gem, go with a couple of friends and grab 5 or 6 mezze (starters) for roughly £5 a dish to share. Maybe a mixed grill too! There are loads to choose from but whatever you get, go for the Batata Harra, Hommos Shawarma and Jawaneh Meshoue. Head here in the late afternoon and you’re sure to avoid a long queue. This place will not disappoint!
2. Stax Diner
Famous for their crazy fried chicken and waffles, make sure you’re hungry when you come to Stax. This American diner sits in the quirky Kingly Court by Liberty London. It’s the perfect destination after a long day of shopping. Their menu is far from overwhelming, making them an easy choice. All of their burgers are around the £10 mark with added options of transforming them into Double or Triple Stax. If you pop down here, try out their cajun fries and mocktails!
3. Sticky Wings
Ever get those sudden cravings for chicken wings? Don’t wait to get your hands dirty with Sticky Wings. Get stuck into their buffalo wings, not to be had without their blue cheese dip! This cosy diner is ideal for relaxed date nights or a post-revision treat. Best of all they fill you up for under a tenner.
4. Chopstix
A greasy Chinese is a perfect remedy for everything student related. Be it passing an exam, failing an exam or celebrating the end of exams! The only thing better than greasy Chinese takeaway is cheap Chinese takeaway. Lucky for us there’s an ideally located place in the heart of the West End. A two-minute walk from Tottenham Court Road station, Chopstix is a cheap and cheerful option. With a fiver bagging you a piping hot box of sweet and sour chicken noodles with an extra quid giving you some steaming spring rolls to dig into. This stuff is my guilty pleasure.
5. Dishoom
If you can muster up enough patience required to get you through Dishoom’s infamous queues, you’re in for a treat. This place nails meals around the clock, from breakfast, dinner to dessert. Dishoom truly is Indian street food done right with nothing less than an enchanting atmosphere as well as friendly and helpful waiters. If you do try it, don’t leave without trying the house Black Dhal.
