Focus Keeper
Do you sit down to study only to find that two hours has gone by and you haven’t actually retained much information? Creating good study habits can be a difficult thing to master, especially in your first year of uni. This is where Focus Keeper comes in. The app allows you to set a task, and a timer for 25 minutes. When the timer is up, the app prompts you to take a five minute break (which is super important for clearing your head).
Focus Keeper tracks your progress over time, while allowing you to set goals regarding the number of focus sessions you complete per day or week. Focus Keeper is not currently available as an Android app, but there is a nice alternative called ClearFocus.
Wunderlist
This is the ultimate app for anyone who likes to write a to-do list. You can customise your lists into different categories and folders as well as set due-dates and reminders to make sure you’re keeping on top of everything.
The Pro version of Wanderlust allows you to share lists and work collaboratively with your classmates. This is perfect for keeping track of where you’re group assignments are at (and giving people a nudge to do their part on time!).
Quizlet
Visual learners - this one’s for you. Quizlet allows you to create your own flashcards and study sets, customised to whatever it is you’re trying to master. If that all seems like a bit too much effort, you can also tap into the millions of other flash cards created by other students.
This app is perfect for students learning a new language, helping you to nail the basics.
Monefy
Being a student can be tough on the wallet. Monefy is your new bff when it comes to making sure you don’t blow all your cash on coffee and burgers. The app tracks your spending and creates your categories based on your spending habits. This way, you can see where all of your cash is going, and work out where it might be easiest to make savings.
Budgeting for the whole month means you’re less likely to be caught out by surprise waiting for that next pay check to come through (and you won’t have to live on mi-goreng for a week).
Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock
Download this app, open it up and pop your phone onto your mattress before you go to sleep. Come morning, you’ll wake up with a detailed sleep analysis, based on your body movements throughout the night.
Sleep cycle also has a nice feature that allows you to set a time period that you’d like to wake up during (say between 7am and 7:30am) and it will wake you up when you're in your lightest sleep phase. Hypothetically, this means you’ll wake up feeling refreshed and ready to smash the day!
