Merry Binge-mas!
The festive time of year is finally here and what better way to celebrate than with a movie marathon? Even just putting some of these on in the background while you cram in your finals studying is a good idea. Christmas magic will get you an A, right?
1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas
You can't go anywhere without seeing a meme based on Jim Carrey's version of the Grinch. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is the live-action version that you can put on and laugh for hours. Just put it on when everything in your life gets to be too much and consistently say "me" for everything the Grinch does. He's pretty freaking relatable, after all. Side note: while I'm DEFINITELY going to see Benedict Cumberbatch shoot his shot at being the Grinch, Jim Carrey will always be #1 Grinch in my heart.
2. White Christmas
I kid you not, I watch this every day in December. It's just one of those movies that soothes you. Set after WWII (and released in 1954), White Christmas follows two big time entertainers to Vermont as they fall in love with a pair of sisters whilst helping an old army buddy. Fun fact: back when Blockbuster was a thing... my family rented this movie and then never returned it foregoing all late fees since Blockbuster had gone out of business.
3. A Holiday Engagement
This list wouldn't be complete without an entry from the Hallmark Channel. A woman hires a man to be her fiancé for the holidays... what could go wrong? Granted a majority of the A Holiday Engagement takes place over Thanksgiving but a family holiday setting still gets you in the mood (and reminds you that your family isn't that bad).
4. A Christmas Prince
Netflix (savagely) called out the 53 people that watched this movie 18 times but hey, they're also the people responsible for the film. Essentially The Prince and Me set during Christmastime, A Christmas Prince follows a young journalist as she tries to get a scoop on the playboy Prince that's destined to be king. It may be a little cheesy but who doesn't love cheese during Christmas?
5. The Princess Switch
The story off two people from different worlds trading places has been told time and time again (The Parent Trap, Trading Places, and Model Behavior, to name a few), but we I will never NOT want to watch it unfold, especially when Vanessa Hudgens is involved. It isn't really about Christmas, but it takes place a week before Christmas, so we'll let it slide.
6. A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding
A sequel to the first movie, The Royal Wedding follows Amber and Prince Richard as they plan their lavish royal wedding (I bet it was hard for you to guess that, based on the title). But, of course, there are some bumps along the way, because -GASP- royal life isn't all it's cracked up to be! It's probably just as cheesy as the first one, but you KNOW I'll still watch it multiple times. Hopefully not 18 times, though. If I watch it 18 times, take away my Netflix privileges.
7. The Christmas Chronicles
This movie is from the creators of Harry Potter and Home Alone, so it's pretty promising. Two siblings set out to catch Santa on film, and they end up hopping in his sleigh. Of course, they almost cause the sleigh to crash and ruin Christmas, so Santa enlists them to help save Christmas before it's too late. If I were a betting woman, I'd say they do end up saving Christmas (but we'll see!).
8. The Holiday Calendar
When a photographer is given an antique advent calendar that was a family heirloom, she finds out that it's a magic calendar that predicts the future and gives her incredible gifts. Of course there's a love triangle along the way, because why wouldn't there be? This movie likely offers a feel-good ending, and I'm here for that.
